Workshop Tips

Here is a few workshop tips that might be usefull to others.

Usage of thin centre drills in the lathe

One can very easily break a thin centre drill like the BS1 whose point is only 1 mm thick especially in an older lathe where the underside of the tailstock has weared and the drill point is pointing below centre. The drill point tries to find the centre but can wobble totally out of control with eventual breakage of the drill. In order to avoid it first make a small centre dimple with a larger centre drill like the 2.5 mm. Thereafter the thin drill can be safely used.
